This is a very large, very heavy war club manufactured when Hillerich & Bradsby was transitioning to the Louisville Slugger name and logo. What better player to represent change than Jackie Robinson. For a time this bat was offered at the factory /museum. The bat shows some use marks with some cracks being covered by tape and displays well. Larger bats are tough to find particularly in good condition. This one is 33-1/2 inches in overall length with "JR4" stamped on the knob. Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers who was the first black player in modern Major League Baseball. Jack Roosevelt Robinson (January 31, 1919 – October 24, 1972) was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame with the class of 1962. Robinson was a Negro League All-Star (1945) and a 6 time All-Star (1949–1954) and a World Series champion (1955). Robinson won the NL MVP (1949) as well as the MLB Rookie of the Year (1947). He claimed the NL batting champion (1949) and was a 2 time NL stolen base leader (1947, 1949). The Los Angeles Dodgers retired his No. 42 jersey number and the No. 42 was also retired by all MLB teams. He is a Monument Park honoree and was honored as being selected as a member of the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. It is a fine looking piece for your wall.
