former professional baseball pitcher who played 16 seasons in Major
League Baseball (MLB). Gooden pitched from 1984 to 1994 and from 1996 to
2000 for the New York Mets (1984–1994), the New York Yankees
(1996–1997), the Cleveland Indians (1998–1999), the Houston Astros
(2000), the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2000) and the New York Yankees (2000).
During that career, he was a 4 time All-Star (1984–1986, 1988), a 2
time World Series champion (1986, 2000), won the NL Cy Young Award
(1985), the Triple Crown (1985), the NL Rookie of the Year (1984), the
Silver Slugger Award (1992). He was the MLB wins leader (1985), the MLB
ERA leader (1985), a 2 time MLB strikeout leader (1984, 1985), Pitched a
no-hitter on May 14, 1996. The New York Mets retired his No. 16 jersey
