Here is a baseball card from the Batter-Up series that were produced from 1934 until 1936. The 1934 Batter-Up baseball set, manufactured by National Chicle, consists of 192 cards issued over a three-year period. Cards #1-80 measure 2-3/8" by 3-1/4", while the remaining #81-192 measure 2-3/8" by 3". Each card is printed in black-and-white or varying colors with an in-action player photograph in the center of the die-cut, which allowed collectors to fold the card within the perforation to stand the cards upright without outside support. Near the bottom of each is a white box with "Batter-Up", the player’s name, team and position printed inside. Also printed at or near the bottom left corner of each card in the number designation prints as "No. 1", "No. 57", "No. 149", etc. This one depicts "Wild Bill" Hallahan who was at the time, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals. William Anthony Hallahan (August 4, 1902 – July 8, 1981) played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1925–1926; 1929–1936), the Cincinnati Reds (1936–1937) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1938). He was an All-Star (1933) and 3 time World Series champion (1926, 1931, 1934). He was also the NL wins leader (1931) and a 2 time NL strikeout leader (1930, 1931). This one has been professionally graded by the SGC Company. They have rated it is 3.5 which stands for Very Good Plus. It is encapsulated in their holder for display and preservation.
