What a great piece! This is a wonderful Circa 1921 New York Giant Casey Stengel Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. This photo was originally sold as the first image of Stengel in a New York uniform and that may well be true--the uniform style is correct for his 1921 which was his Big Apple debut--but we'll stop short of making a definitive declaration. Casey Stengel was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame with the class of 1966. Stengel was a very important figure in baseball for decades. He was a player for the Brooklyn Dodgers / Superbas / Robins (1912–1917), Pittsburgh Pirates (1918–1919), Philadelphia Phillies (1920–1921), New York Giants (1921–1923) and Boston Braves (1924–1925). He also was a manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1934–1936), Boston Braves (1938–1943), New York Yankees (1949–1960) and New York Mets (1962–1965). He was also a coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1932–1933). During that time, he achieved being a 9 time World Series champion (1921, 1922, 1949–1953, 1956, 1958). The New York Yankees retired his No. 37 jersey as did the New York Mets and he is a Monument Park honoree and is in the New York Mets Hall of Fame and a member of the Major League Baseball All-Time Team. This nice large image is 8-1/2 inches by 6-1/2 inches. On the back of the image, you can see the "Keystone View Co. Inc. of N.Y." stamping and editorial notes. It has some chipping at the corners with tack holes and minor image wear. It has been professionally authenticated by the PSA Company and is encapsulated in their PSA/DNA holder and is noted as being a Type 1 image. Their holder measures 10 inches by 13 inches in overall size.
