He is considered to have been one of the fastest men ever to play the game. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. He ranked 66th on a list of the greatest baseball players published by The Sporting News in 1999. He was a 2 time Negro World Series champ (1943, 1944), an 8 time All-Star (1933–1936, 1942 (2)-1944) with a Lifetime batting average: .337 (Negro leagues). He is a member of the Washington Nationals Ring of Honor. It is also accompanied by a modern xerox image of the baseball great in his uniform.
