Here is a very cool piece from early baseball. This is an original 1914 B18 Blanket-Ty Cobb (White Infield) SGC Authentic. Ty Cobb is one of the most talented figures in the B18 baseball blankets series from 1914. Nicknamed "blankets" because they were often sewn into quilts and pillow cases, these 5.25" square felt artifacts are particularly condition-sensitive and challenging to acquire in high grade. They were packaged with packs of Egyptienne Straights Cigarettes and were folded in half twice, placed in an envelope and attached to the packs using an adhesive strip. Sometimes you will find some remnants of the adhesive strip still attached to the blankets. Packs of Egyptienne Straights were square in shape, so folding the blanket in this way made them fit with the packages. This is a "White Infield" color variation featuring baseball legend Ty Cobb. Tyrus Raymond Cobb (December 18, 1886 – July 17, 1961), nicknamed "the Georgia Peach", was an American professional baseball center fielder. A native of rural Narrows, Georgia, Cobb played 24 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He spent 22 years with the Detroit Tigers and served as the team's player-manager for the last six, and he finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1936, Cobb received the most votes of any player on the inaugural ballot for the National Baseball Hall of Fame, receiving 222 out of a possible 226 votes (98.2%); no other player received a higher percentage of votes until Tom Seaver in 1992. In 1999, the Sporting News ranked Cobb third on its list of "Baseball's 100 Greatest Players." This one has been authenticated and encapsulated SGC Authentic. SGC does not number grade B18s but will slab them for protection and display. As you see, the colors are amazing. The center infield is a bright and clean White. What a cool Ty Cobb piece!
